Nordenberg University Professor, Director, Center for International Legal Education, University of Pittsburgh School of Law, USA: The two passages do seem to have more similarity than would result had the writer of one not been familiar with the other. This is the type of similarity that leads me to discussions with students should such a situation occur in their writings. At that point, I usually determine the degree of culpability as a result of that discussion. I do not claim to be an expert on plagiarism, but have to deal with it in working with students. Our policy in our LL.M. program is that any student who plagiarizes is terminated from the program and sent home without completing the degree, so we do take it seriously.
